Jane looked at the fluorescent pink board shorts with there dark purple hibiscus print. "Perhaps we should head to Cerro Azul and hit the surf instead. You should bring your beach boys album as well," she said sarcastically. I laughed and gave her a pretended look of annoyance.

I knew she was excited. She couldn't stop moving and her energy was contagious. I watched as she threw a thick pair of socks into her backpack from across the room. "And she scores!" I yelled out, in the tone of a commentator.
She came over and wrestled me onto the bed. "Are you packed", she asked? "Everything except the beach boys", I replied. She grinned. "Good!" she said, "Our flight leaves at five."

She turned over, her long dark hair splaying out over the pillow. In moments I could hear her slow rhythmic breaths and I knew she had fallen asleep. I reached over and lifted the map from the bedside table. I studied the long rigorous trail that would lead us to Choquequirao, the city of gold and a lost city of the ancient Incas. I fell asleep with images of snow capped peaks and raging glacier-fed rivers pacing through my mind.

I carefully stuffed my old worn surf shorts into the bag next to my warm gloves and a red thermal shirt. Its vague blue pattern of waves willingly took me five years into the past. My capricious mind showed pictures of me walking on a beach in Biarritz. This was where I first bought my shorts. From that day I have never travelled without them. My mind reminded me of why as it started to display memories of... "Peter, stop dreaming!" A hand gently touched my shoulder and I zipped up the bag and replied "All done!"

"-You're crazy Peter. Its going to be freezing up there. I don't think the snow ever melts where we're going." Jane rolled her eyes. "-I read a story about the Andes once. A boy travelled for days with his llama to get down to a village. Are we going to be that far from civilization? Are we going to see llamas? We aren't going to have internet access, will we?"

I finished going over the stuff in my bag, making sure I had everything, and checking for my passport one more time. "-No babe, no internet, no cell phone, no television. Ready to go?" I was anxious to get to the airport.
